And in the Castle Was a ….

Of course, we all tell stories to our children — but how ’bout getting THEM in the act! You start the story, she adds to it. At an interesting moment she stops and you continue and so on and so on. It’s that easy.

I’ll give you an example. One day a little girl was walking by the castle and she decided to visit. She walked in the door and saw a ________! Offer some tips if the child is really young — like a beast (of course) or a prince or a ____. When Ryan and I did this, she said it was a prince and his name was Daddy! So, Ryan and Prince Daddy lived happily ever after! Perfect!

Try it at bedtime or when waiting at the doctor’s office or when sitting with the whole family at a meal!

Once upon a time, my father took a friend and me (we were probably 5) to the Phila. art museum (when it still had cascading fountains) and told us it was a castle. He told us it was a magic place, and that a prince and princess lived inside. He said they liked to paint, and the walls were full of things they painted. He said sometimes they let children in to see the paintings. He said that sometimes they even took paintings made by kids and put them on the walls. I went home and painted the prince and princess, hoping it would be in the castle; that it wasn’t never bothered me, I just kept painting and hoping.
