Souvenir Shopping …. Try a Postcard Collection!

Hopefully, you’re planning something fun for this long holiday weekend — or perhaps you are sometime during the summer.

If your excursion includes a visit to the souvenir shop, why don’t you give your kids an allowance — maybe $5, maybe less? Let them comparison shop to find what they might like to buy. The thing about the items in these shops, they are truly nice memories but do the kids really use them? If they do, that’s another story. I can tell you when we go to Sesame Place, we pile up on beach towels, back packs, – the things we plan to buy anyway. We even bought an Elmo table and chairs! Practical with special memories attached to it.

But, IF the items are just trinkets, help your child be wise and … not buy everything in front of his eyes!  …

Here’s an idea. Why don’t you collect postcards and keep a photo album just for his postcard collection? There’s just something extra special about the photos on postcards. He’ll use his money to select his postcards and when he goes home, put them in the book. Think of the memories this book will hold — forever and forever.

Have fun — lots of KIDFUN, I hope! And, I may be so busy having my own KIDFUN you may not hear from me till Tuesday. We’ll see!

I collected post cards, and ended up with maybe 5,000. I lost most of them in a flood, but do attest to how special and interesting they can be. I still pick up a post cards from time to time and use them as book marks.
