Best Friends …. Let’s imagine!
Kids just love having best friends … don’t we all! (How lucky for me! I’ve had my best friend my entire life, since I’m two years old!)
When you have an idle moment with a child — while you’re waiting a doctor’s office, at a restaurant, in line somewhere — look at a picture on the wall or at someone nearby and make up stories about his or her best friend. Use your imaginations — together. You can be serious — maybe it’s her sister or her friend from school. You can be silly — maybe it’s an elephant or a giant giraffe! Talk about what these best friends do — go to the movies, have parties, talk on the phone, play with dolls or with trains, go on adventures to the zoo, to a theme park, to a haunted house!
I remember when I had KIDFUN at The Phillies, we had a contest called Draw the Phanatic’s best friend! Everyone loves this huge green, comical mascot but whoever thought about his best friend. Kids drew us pictures … and you shoulda’ seen how pretty the Phanatic’s best friend was! Try that … draw pictures of best friends, too.
Encourage your child to imagine! It’s a great way to pass the time — together!
