Speak High, Speak Low!

Want to brighten a dull moment and perk up your child’s listening skills?

It’s easy and takes no time at all. Change your tone in the middle of a sentence. Say something in different pitches. Then, ask him to repeat it back to you, sounding just like you. For example, when asking if he wants his breakfast now, you can ask beginning in a low pitched tone … DO YOU WANT … and end in high pitched tone … your breakfast now? Then, he can answer, SURE I WANT … my breakfast now! Then it’s his turn to go first and you repeat him.

Try it while having a conversation in the car, taking a walk, anywhere … whisper, squeak, roar .. do anything. The sillier the better!

  • Love these creative ideas that Sharla makes seem almost intuitive. If parents incorporated at least a part of what Sharla presents, there would be much more love to go around! (Personally, my favorite song to sing around the house is from Peter Pan (Neverland…”I know a place where dreams are born….it’s not on any chart, you can find it in your heart….Never, Neverland….”)
