“Sweet” Fun … or … Turning Around a Disaster!

Okay — I’m not bragging about this. Last night, Amy (my daughter), Ryan (my granddaughter) and I had dinner at Friendly’s and well, Ryan, who will be three August 1st, thought those pink little packets in the container on the table were there for FUN. So, without us realizing it, she whips open the Sweet n’ Low and sprinkles it all over the table. Oh, Ryan! What a mess!

When we went to clean it up, I took the side of a fork and made it a shovel to scrape it into a pile. Of course, Ryan wanted to try this, too. THEN, we started to write in it. What an interesting surface to make a picture! Oh no, am I giving the wrong message? Well, I was clear that opening sugary packets on the table was a waste and not a good idea but since we were stuck with this little mess to clean up, we may as well enjoy it just this once! After making pictures over and over, we shoveled it into one pile again and cleaned it up and our food arrived. Good timing!

Of course, I’m not recommending this as a KIDFUN game when you’re at a restaurant, BUT, you might want to try it at home. Cover the kitchen table with paper, pour out a small pile of sugar (or salt), use a Popsicle stick or plastic spoon and see what kind of designs you can make. I’d suggest this KIDFUN idea be supervised, just to be safe and to have less mess!

Hope you can turn a little disaster into a lot of fun, too!
