Name Them

Does your child have pictures or art on the wall with animals or people in it? Does your child have a book with characters who are un-named? Name them! Well, have him name them.

I hope you don’t mind another example about Ryan, my now three-year old granddaughter! On her bathroom wall is a mural of an underwater scene that includes everything from fish to a giant turtle, a starfish, even a seahorse. When I gave her a bath one night we named them. And, of course one had to be named Grammy :-), another was Mommy, Daddy, Ba (her name for her grandpop), Aunt Hope and Uncle Joe. It’s a nice little distraction while getting dried off. And, funny thing — we forgot who was who so we had to do it all over again another night!

This is a great way to pass the time when you’re stuck waiting in a doctor’s office or at a restaurant. Name them … anything you see! Even the people sitting nearby.
