What Did You Do Today, “Dear”?
This is a funny little trick to get more conversation from everyone in the family. When talking about your day, be someone else! Switch roles — so the child can pretend to be Mommy and Mommy can be the child — when describing what you did. It will give you a big clue how much your child understands how you spend your time and it can be as silly as he likes.
“Well, today I went to work,” he could say being daddy in a very deep voice. “First I drove the car and stopped at Starbucks for coffee …” And on and on …. When you describe what your child did, she could easily say, “No Mommy. I didn’t play outside today” and then make some corrections. You may just learn a lot more about how each person’s spends the day in this fun, conversational way.
