Telephone Time – Make it a Game

Do you have a long distance relationship with a young child, even a two or three year old? Think of quick games you can play together on the phone to really engage him. How about “Name That Tune!” Try it on each other. Hum the beginning of a song he knows and ask him to guess the title. Or play games where you mimic each other, like “Copy Cat.” Make a sound and ask …”Can you make this sound?” Then click your tongue or clap your hands or hum a tune. Make sure he has a turn to try it on you.

I always hated when people would call and say, “Hi! How are you?” The answer was, “Fine,” and then you didn’t know what to ask next. Try to avoid a one word answers that don’t lead to a conversation especially for a child. If you think of KIDFUN,you both may come up with a cute idea. (Tell us, if you do!)

Sharla Feldscher has always been a "kid-believer!" She's written six books on creative activities to enjoy with young children and has written for magazines, newspapers, broadcast media and now has this blog with one easy-to-do KIDFUN tip each blog. She is also the owner of a public relations business in Philadelphia.

I would say each letter of the alphabet and Adddisyn 2 would repeat them, then I would count to 10 and she repeated each number. Now she will continue with multiple numbers or letters in order. We talk about colors and animals. Sammi 6 will read a hard cover book to Addisyn like Five Little Monkies and then send her the book. We do this usually with Skype and not the telephone so we can enjoy facial expressions and not just words. You don’t have to use any of this, I just like sharing ideas with you since you give me so many great ones.
