Label It!

Do you have one of those hand-held label making machines? It’s a great way to play with the kids and get them into reading in very subtle ways.

Walk around the room with a label-maker and have the kids help you label “stuff.” It can be as simple a word as sink or chair, or longer words like refrigerator! Have them select the item to label and then help you make the label (which you can do by writing on masking tape, too) and then they can tape the label in place. The great part of this is that your kids will read them.

They can even go on a treasure hunt with their friends seeking out labels in  a room and …. reading them!
