My Favorite Things …
Some people reading this might think I’m talking about the wonderful song from “The Sound of Music.” I do love it! But, nope, that’s not it. In this case “My Favorite Things” is about sharing YOUR favorite things … or skills … with a young person. This actually works for any age. I can remember my grandfather, who died when I was 12, loved to play card games and he taught me “Steal the Old Man’s Bundle.” Do you know that game? (If not, tell me — I’ll explain it on another blog.) It’s really fun and I loved playing it. To this day, I remember when he taught me — I was sitting on my grandparents’ porch outside their little apartment in West Philadelphia. I bet I was about 8 or 9. Well, I taught “Steal the Old Man’s Bundle” to Amy and Hope and, I just bet, they’ll teach it to their kids or I will! How great if it will be passed down through the generations. It is very special to share something you like with a young child, one of your favorite things. After all, you share a part of you and that truly is a gift. Plus, you just might build a lifelong memory!
