Healthy Eating — After Halloween?

Is this an oxymoron — trying to eat healthy with all that candy in the house after Halloween! Well, maybe it makes sense because there are many lessons to learn about saving that candy as a special treat.  (I hope you still have some left since I’m writing this on November 2nd.)

Can you do a Treasure Hunt for Healthy Foods in your house? Walk around with magnifying glasses, if you need a prop, and examine the foods in the refrigerator or the pantry and ask the kids, “What is healthy? What is Not?” For kids who can read, help them read labels — the print is so tiny, the magnifying glasses will be a useful prop. Just get to talking about it without setting rules and guidelines. Contrasting an apple to a candy bar can lead to “interesting” discussion. Awareness is the goal here.

Hope Halloween was fun for all!
