Great Finds on YouTube like … Shirley Temple!

Okay, I’m really dating myself but while watching my granddaughter Ryan, 3, put on a show, I realized she might get a kick out of seeing Shirley Temple. Do you remember that adorable curly-haired little girl who sang and danced into thousands of hearts in the movies? It was so simple. Ryan sat on my lap at the computer and I logged into YouTube, searched for Shirley Temple and …

I was right! She was glued, fascinated! Do you know what is so great about this? YouTube is such a great connector from my youth to hers. She really loved watching and, before you knew it, her mother and I were singing, “On the Good Ship Lollipop!” But, think of it — your favorite TV shows, can be your child’s. Your favorite scenes from movies, too. I just love old musicals and, hm, maybe next we’ll take in a little Fred and Ginger or Gene Kelly singin’ in the rain!

It was the best of KIDFUN — because it reminded me of MY KIDFUN days, too!

Sharla Feldscher has always been a "kid-believer!" She's written six books on creative activities to enjoy with young children and has written for magazines, newspapers, broadcast media and now has this blog with one easy-to-do KIDFUN tip each blog. She is also the owner of a public relations business in Philadelphia.

  • Yes! Our granddaughters recently fell in love with Shirley Temple too. And you reminded me that my mom’s best friend was the daughter of Fannie Brice who did Baby Snooks on radio. I’m sure you’re too young to remember that, but I loved the recordings of those shows when I was a child. They also are available to hear if you just do a search. She was always getting into trouble for doing some mischief but what I mostly remember is her listening to her good side and bad side, giving her advice on what to do. I need to listen again!
